you’ve got to admire Wall Street’s gall,” wrote one of our appalled columnists. “They crash the entire world economy by selling fantasy finance instruments.  They get bailed out by us to the tune of trillions of dollars in TARP money, cheap loans and asset guarantees.  And then they take our money and start it all over again with what Warren Buffett has called, ‘financial weapons of mass destruction.’”

    Take the environmental crisis. If you read our interview with activist, Bill McKibben, you’d know scientists have calculated that beyond 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the planet is no longer hospitable to civilization.  Currently, we’re at 390ppm and rising rapidly!  It’s like we’re all Maine lobsters riding in the car on the way home, oblivious to the pot of boiling water that awaits us.

    Here’s our Editorial team astonished at the abuse by military contractor KBR who botched the wiring of 70,000 Iraqi buildings where our troops lived, resulting in three deaths by electrocution when servicemen showered.  Postscript:  KBR was rewarded $83.4 million in bonuses for their electrical work in Iraq.

    Let’s face it.  The Progressive does not always make for comfortable armchair reading.  That’s because going into the back rooms, the boardrooms, and the cloak rooms to uncover for you the hard truths about who really controls power in this country can be scary and infuriating.
