While right wing politicians and pundits continue to spew out their ideological drivel and detritus with mind numbing regularity, hoping to obfuscate and obscure the important issues that face us each day ...
... there is one publication that is not afraid to cut through the BULLSHIT ... rip off the corporate masks ... push past the doors marked “PRIVATE” ... and reveal to you who controls the real levers of power.
It’s called ...

Dear Friend,
If you spent the entire Bush administration shouting at your TV, “I can’t believe what these jerks are up to now ...”
If you’re appalled by the greed of Wall Street and want to understand how our elected officials can allow hedge fund managers to earn $1 billion a year while we have the highest rate of poverty among children in the industrialized world ...
If you’re alarmed our planet will soon be inhospitable for civilization at the rate we’re burning fossil fuels and want to know the steps you can take to reverse that trend ...
If you’re concerned how universal healthcare has been botched ... women’s and gay rights have been assaulted ... immigration has been ignored ... racism has been resurrected ... and the Supreme Court has been hijacked ...
... then you’ll surely want to hold in your handsFor over 100 years, this courageous periodical has been the place where our nation’s most progressive thinkers have gathered to open your eyes to who is really profiting from war, manipulating stocks, controlling Congress, enslaving children, pulling strings ... in order to plump up their stock portfolios at your and my expense.
The Progressive magazine now at a price so low --
it’s like getting 9 issues free!
Because The Progressive is not just a magazine, but the voice for a powerful and passionate movement, inside our pages ...
... you’ll learn from black belt Kung-Fu liberals (yes, I said the “L” word) ... how to fight back.Take the health care debacle. We were among the first to let you know about a reprehensible insurance company tactic called “rescission” -- where sick policy holders were routinely dumped even if they never missed a premium payment, nor were we shy about letting President Obama know our displeasure when he caved into greedy insurance companies who made out like bandits with this new healthcare bill.
Take the Wall Street bailout fiasco. “If nothing else,
you’ve got to admire Wall Street’s gall,” wrote one of our appalled columnists. “They crash the entire world economy by selling fantasy finance instruments. They get bailed out by us to the tune of trillions of dollars in TARP money, cheap loans and asset guarantees. And then they take our money and start it all over again with what Warren Buffett has called, ‘financial weapons of mass destruction.’”
Take the environmental crisis. If you read our interview with activist, Bill McKibben, you’d know scientists have calculated that beyond 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the planet is no longer hospitable to civilization. Currently, we’re at 390ppm and rising rapidly! It’s like we’re all Maine lobsters riding in the car on the way home, oblivious to the pot of boiling water that awaits us.
In case you’re unaware of The Progressive’s unique place in magazine history, we were ...
- The periodical which courageously published startling revelations about the atomic bomb which the US government desperately tried to repress.
- The magazine which exposed greedy titans of industry back in the 1930‘s ... exposed McCarthyism in the 50‘s ... shone a light on our country’s death squads in Central America in the 80’s.
- The place which revealed how, during the paranoid Bush/Cheney years, a secretive group of 28,000 business people were deputized by the FBI to “shoot to kill” in the event of marshall law.
Here’s Wendell Berry concerned about the perversions in our economic system. “A society in which every school child ‘needs’ a computer, and every sixteen-year-old ‘needs’ an automobile, and every eighteen-year-old ‘needs’ to go to college is already delusional and is well on its way to being broke.”
Here’s Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders appalled at the Wall Street’s lack of shame. “Think about the working elderly, people sixty to sixty-five, who have worked their entire lives to put away a few bucks for a dignified retirement. [Now] some of them are packing groceries in supermarkets and are wondering how they are going to heat their homes this winter.”
Here’s our Editorial team astonished at the abuse by military contractor KBR who botched the wiring of 70,000 Iraqi buildings where our troops lived, resulting in three deaths by electrocution when servicemen showered. Postscript: KBR was rewarded $83.4 million in bonuses for their electrical work in Iraq.
Let’s face it. The Progressive does not always make for comfortable armchair reading. That’s because going into the back rooms, the boardrooms, and the cloak rooms to uncover for you the hard truths about who really controls power in this country can be scary and infuriating.
As a result, more than one issue of The Progressive has been launched across the room followed by a stream of expletives. But none of our readers have ever regretted knowing what they know now. Because once you’ve had the blinders removed, you’ll never want to be hoodwinked by tea baggers ... sandbagged by Fox news pundits ... blown smoke by powerful corporate interests ... fed a bunch of BS by retired generals flaking for the Pentagon ... ever again.
For instance, recently we revealed to our readers ...
* In 1970, the ratio of the top 100 corporate CEOs and the average worker’s pay was 40 to 1. By 2007 it was 1,723 to 1.
* $17.67 million of the $22 million to pass anti-gay marriage legislation in California was contributed by 59,000 Mormon families.
* The White Nationalist Community tries to mask their overt racism to lure recruits, but if you look at their website, you’ll find the song lyrics, “A Warrior Does Not Return Without Blood On his Axe, The arrival of lower races has begun ... “
About unmarried teen parents: “They’re sluts,” says Colorado State Rep, Larry Liston at a GOP lunch. “In my parents day and age, (they) were sent away, they were shunned, they were called what they are.”As you can see, there’s much work still to be done. However, the first step to combat such nonsense is we progressives need to rally together in one place and coordinate our efforts.
About the GOP platform: “It’s one of the best political documents” produced in the last quarter century. “Honest Injun on that.’ --Michael Steele, RNC Chairman
